Reade Goes For the Gold
Shanaze Reade will compete for the Beijing Olympics this coming summer. The two time champion secured her entry to the much awaited event as she easily bagged the gold at the recently held BMX World Championships in Taiyuan, China. As such, Reade will be the sole representative of Great Britain’s team sprint in BMX this August.
Proving her unrelenting skills, the nineteen year old Shanaze Reade successfully defended her title as World Champion. The recent win is Reade’s second time to get a hold of the championship at the senior level, following her first season in the level last year. It is also her fifth time to top the BMX World competition, at both junior and senior levels.
Following Reade’s lead in the BMX World Championship was France's Ann-Caroline Chausson in second place, and Sarah Walker of New Zealand in third. Reade’s team mate, Joey Gough was already eliminated earlier in the semi-finals round.
Reade, the crowd’s favorite
Following her five successive wins of the BMX World Championship crown, Reade is regarded as the crowd’s prime choice for the Beijing Olympics’ gold.
According to Craig White, the BMX coach for Great Britain’s team sprint, there were many positive feedbacks about Reade’s consistent and consecutive success. He added that prior to Reade’s fifth win, many people were already pointing out that she is definitely headed for the gold in Beijing. “She is in a class of her own,” White said as he pointed out that the recent win was Reade’s actual testament of her eligibility to participate in Beijing.
Based on the reviews, the latest success was dubbed by many as “a comfortable victory” for GB’s leading BMX contender. In the Taiyuan competition, Reade successfully left her opponents with almost fifteen bike lengths in gap just after finishing the initial set of ramps. White added that Reade finished the course seconds ahead from Chausson despite the fact that she didn’t even pedal the last straight of the course.
