Women Power In Snowboarding

Women power is just about anywhere these days. Whatever the field, be it in politics, science, aeronautics, information technology or even in sports, women have become prominent figures in the recent years. Gone are the days when women are just confined in the homes because now, they’re truly becoming more active.

Take for instance in snowboarding where many young ladies from different parts of the world have made a name for themselves. This extreme sport is quite dangerous yet the youngsters who love adventure and thrills are undaunted which just goes to show their fearless attitude. You’ve seen the more aggressive and talented ladies reap awards and medals in various local and international snowboarding competitions along with their male counterparts.

These ladies are as awesome as the skilled male snowboarders. Jamie Anderson of South Lake Tahoe is one young female snowboarder full of energy and dedication to her love for this extreme sport. Her setting a record in the Winter X Games history as the youngest female snowboarder plus other achievements are truly admirable. Other famous women snowboarders include Geraldine Fasnacht from Switzerland, Tiffany Noel from the U.S. and Berangere Moroc from France.

On the other hand, we also commend other lady snowboarders who are contributing what they can in providing the necessary gear, apparel and equipment for snowboarding notably for the female riders. Kim Goldstein and Jan Kodadek came up with an online store called shreddingetty.com to provide the latest and quality gear exclusively for the ladies to make their snowboarding performance comfortable. Additionally, they come up with events all over the U.S. that promote the unity and interaction among female snowboarders. These two ladies believe that women are indeed a major part of snowboarding today and should be given the necessary recognition.

Another group instrumental in recognizing women in snowboarding is Roxy, the women’s sportswear brand of the Quicksilver Group. Roxy together with snowpark builder Mellow Constructions and Tina Birbaum, a professional snowboarder herself and founder of Roxy Chicken Jam, initiated competitions exclusively for women called the “Roxy Chicken Jams.” These events allow female snowboarders to compete on specially designed snowparks and show their tricks and stunts before their fans. Since 2006, two Roxy Chicken Jams have been held – one in Switzerland (2006) and the other in Park City, U.S.A. (2007). Of course, top women snowboarders such as Cheryl Maas from Holland, Natasza Zurek from Canada and Kjersti Buaas from Norway were just among the many who competed in the events.

With these achievements and contribution in snowboarding, it’s clear that women snowboarders are making their mark and gaining international attention. You go girls and keep flying!
