Kaitlyn Farrington

Even though she would rather do slopestyle, Kaitlyn Farrington also does well in halfpipe. In fact, she already has multiple wins in both disciplines in last year’s season. This gave her the golden ticket to snowboarding’s cream of the crop and paved the way for her to join the US Snowboarding 2008 Rookie Team when she was only a junior in high school.

Kaitlyn started snowboarding when she was only eleven years old. Her mother tried to teach her how to snowboard at the Lower River Run located in Sun Valley. At first, she couldn’t get the hang of the sport, but at the end of the day, she found herself liking it. Little by little, she learned the tricks that would later on help in her sports career. When she was in the ninth grade, she joined the snowboard team of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation at the insistence of Heather Black, her snowboarding buddy.

She joined her first snowboarding competition in 2007 and since then, she has been making a name for herself. As a high school sophomore, she bagged six wins in the 2007 Chevrolet Revolution Tour in both the pipe and park events. Then, she further proved that she is the real deal when she got her first gold at the Mt. Bachelor Revolution Tour slopestyle.

In Lake Placid, she joined her first World Cup and landed 15th place. Here, she gained international exposure and she has the US Snowboarding Team to thank for it. Although she thinks slopestyle suits her better, she is not afraid to try her luck in the SuperPipe so she joined the 2007 Breckenridge Grand Prix where she got 6th place in the halfpipe event. Because of this, she earned an invitation to her first Winter X Games this 2008.
