A professional street skateboarder, Josh Kalis, was born in April 27, 1976 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. However, his childhood days were spent in Philadelphia. Josh first tried skateboarding when he was thirteen in 1989. Successful with his first attempt to ride the board, Josh realized that skateboarding was something he could definitely excel at. And so, he spent most of his life trying to be the best at his favorite sport.
Even when he was still an amateur, Josh was always experimenting with skateboarding with the help of his friends. He saw skating not only as an opportunity to bond with his friends but to improve himself. Even during the time when skateboarding was just his hobby, Josh made it a point to continuously practice and find ways to remove the flaws out of his tricks. His favorite practice area was the Love Park in Philadelphia and he points out that he literally almost spent his everyday life practicing in that area.
Much more than just a professional skateboarder, Josh is also a sports advocate. It was noted that every time he was in Love Park, he did not only practice his tricks. Instead, he was also always there to help kids who are just finding heir way in skateboarding. Josh is also known to be a good friend of a fellow Philadelphian skateboarder- Stevie Williams. Based on Williams’ story, Josh invited him to stay in the family apartment for free for as long as he promise to pursue his dreams in skateboarding when he was still a newbie at the sport.
As a professional for several years now, Josh has been doing great in many skateboarding competitions and demos. As such, he has attracted the sponsorship of DC Shoes, Alien Workshop Skateboards, Reflex bearings, Silver Trucks, MOB grip tape, and West 49 Skate shop.
