Richie Lopez started skating in 1986 in Bloomfield, New Jersey where he hails from. He is famous for being only the second guy in history to pull off the 900 degree spin. Tony Hawk, the first skater ever to pull of this trick, even praises Lopez for this feat. Lopez considers being able to skate alongside his idols, Tony Hawk and Steve Caballero, as one of his biggest achievements.
Lopez has not suffered any major injuries through his career although he remembers that he once smashed his front teeth. Even so, he says that he is extremely thankful that he gets to do what he loves and reminds people interested in the sport to keep skating for fun. He says perseverance will always help you realize your dreams.
When he is not competing, Lopez likes to spend his time watching basketball or playing video games. He likes listening to heavy metal. Aside from American food – his favorites are pizza and cheeseburgers – he also enjoys Spanish cuisine.
